Sizes & Framing

Five sizes, one paper, two mouldings. Every print leaves the studio framed behind museum glass with the hanging hardware already fitted.

Paper and Ink

Every print is made in the studio on 310gsm 100 percent cotton rag, a matte archival paper with a faint tooth to it and no optical brighteners. It holds deep blacks without going glossy, which is why the black and white work sits so flat and quiet on a wall. The colour fashion pieces run on the same stock so a mixed wall stays consistent.

Printing is done with twelve pigment inks rather than dye. Pigment sits on the fibre instead of soaking into it, so the tonal separation in the shadows survives. Independent accelerated testing puts this paper and ink pairing at roughly 100 years of lightfastness under normal indoor light behind glass. Keep a print off a wall that takes direct afternoon sun and it will outlive the room.

Each print carries a blind-embossed studio mark in the lower right of the paper, under the mat, and is signed by Sade on the reverse. Large, Giant and Collector prints are numbered.

The Frame

Black or white. Nothing else, because nothing else serves the work.

Solid wood moulding
22mm kiln-dried tulipwood with a satin lacquer, in matte black or soft white. Mitred and joined by hand, not wrapped MDF.
White conservation mat
4-ply acid-free board, bevel cut at 45 degrees so the cut edge catches light. It lifts the glass off the print surface.
Museum glass
Anti-reflective glazing that blocks 99 percent of UV and reflects under 2 percent of room light. You see the print, not the window behind you.
Hung ready
D-rings, braided cord and felt wall bumpers fitted before it ships, plus a small spirit level in the box. Nothing to buy at the hardware shop.
Made in nine days
Printed within three working days, framed and left to cure for four, then packed. Most orders leave the studio on day eight or nine.
Packed to survive
Corner blocks, a foam wrap and a double-wall carton. Giant and Collector ship in a wooden crate by DHL Express, insured for the full value.

How to Choose a Size

Start with viewing distance

Stand where you will usually see the piece from and measure that distance in feet. A good print reads at about one and a half to two times its own width. Six feet back suits Medium. Ten to twelve feet back wants Large. A stairwell you take in from across a room needs Giant or Collector, or the picture disappears into the wall.

Then measure the furniture

If the print hangs above something, aim for the frame to span roughly 60 to 75 percent of the width of that piece. A 72 in sofa takes Large comfortably. A 40 in console takes Medium. Anything narrower than the furniture by half looks stranded.

Hang the centre at 58 in

Galleries hang to a centre line of 57 to 60 inches from the floor, and 58 in is a safe default in most homes. Over a sofa, leave 8 to 10 in between the top of the cushions and the bottom of the frame. For a set of three Smalls, keep 3 in of wall between frames and treat the group as one object when you find its centre.

Still not sure

Send the studio a photo of the wall with a piece of A4 paper taped to it for scale, and we will tell you which size to buy. Replies come back within one working day. If the size you chose turns out to be wrong, you have 30 days from delivery to swap it for another, and we pay the return leg.
